Working together to make Hilliard better!
There are many important projects, infrastructure to recreation and parks facilities. Unfortunately, we cannot continue to borrow at the rate we have been doing so. City Council, with input from the public, must prioritize these projects and budget in a fiscally responsible manner.
Hilliard has seen explosive residential growth. We must now balance that with new commercial growth, both to increase our revenues and also to offset the heavy property tax burden on our residents. We must also review our codes and processes to make our community more friendly to small businesses and start-ups.
We are blessed to live in a community with tremendous schools, first class police and fire services, and diverse businesses. It is vital to the success of our community that the City Government, Townships, School District, and Business Community work together. We can do so much more when we work together.
It is important from both a quality of life and an economic standpoint to improve our traffic issues. It is time to revisit the Thoroughfare Plan and to prioritize budget spending accordingly. We also must address concerns that have developed within our older neighborhoods related to sewer issues.
Sustainability needs to be a priority in all that we do. From evaluating our development standards in the environmentally sensitive Big Darby Accord region to continue efforts to increase our diversion rate of waste away from the landfill. Hilliard can be a model to other cities through these efforts.
